What happens in the first hours after a worker gets hurt decides how the rest of the case goes: whether the employee gets care fast, whether the claim opens cleanly, and whether you meet OSHA’s reporting deadlines. Most of it depends on someone knowing the steps before they need them.

This free tool asks nine questions about your injury response and gives you a risk score, a breakdown by area, and your top three fixes. It takes about two minutes, and the score is calculated in your browser.

The deadlines behind the questions

Under federal OSHA rules (29 CFR 1904.39), an employer must report a work-related fatality within 8 hours, and an in-patient hospitalization, amputation or loss of an eye within 24 hours. Arizona and other state-plan states may add their own requirements. The remaining questions cover what makes those deadlines and the claim go smoothly: securing the scene, photos and witness statements, opening the workers’ comp claim, OSHA 300 recordability, and supporting the injured employee through return to work.

The score is a general indicator, not legal advice or a substitute for a site-specific review.

What to do with your result

If your answers depended on who happens to be on site that day, the fix is a written, practiced procedure. If you want help building one, talk to Safirst.
